Kaag 1: A Lasting Connection in Motion

Every day, the ferry Kaag 1 ensures a reliable connection between Kaag Eiland and the mainland, transporting residents as well as the many professionals who contribute to the craftsmanship at Royal Van Lent Shipyard.

Designed and produced by Akerboom Yacht Equipment in 1993, Kaag 1 stands as a testament to functional marine engineering. From structural integrity to seamless system integration, every element was developed with a clear purpose: to perform efficiently, safely, and with long-term durability.

More than three decades later, the vessel continues to fulfil its role with quiet reliability. It is a reminder of the practical solutions Akerboom delivers—solutions that are not only engineered to meet requirements, but to endure in daily operation.

At the same time, Kaag 1 represents more than its technical function alone. It serves as a tangible link between Akerboom’s history and its ongoing collaboration with Royal Van Lent. Each crossing reflects a shared heritage and a partnership built on craftsmanship and mutual trust.

Earlier this week, Emma van Welij and Mervyn van der Ploeg made that familiar journey once again—an everyday moment that underscores a long-standing relationship which continues to shape the work we do today.
