Introducing The Akerboom Archive Anecdotes
As many of you know, Akerboom recently reopened the monumental Gemeente School in Leiden. To mark this historic moment, Henk Akerboom and Aad Akerboom spent countless hours exploring the company’s archives, collecting material for a new historical exhibition.
But while the exhibition brings objects to life, it does not reveal the stories behind them—the memories, context, and personal anecdotes that truly define Akerboom’s history. And there are many.
That is why Akerboom Archive Anecdotes was created: a podcast series that brings these stories to life.
Hosted by fourth-generation family members Henk and Aad Akerboom, the series offers a journey through more than 165 years of craftsmanship, innovation, and maritime heritage. Each episode uncovers the people, projects, and defining moments that have shaped Akerboom—connecting past and present in a personal and accessible way.

Across the series, the podcast explores a wide range of topics—from Akerboom’s early years in Boskoop and the move to Leiden, to iconic yachts, historic tools, and key moments in Dutch maritime development.
